The establishment of a community legal centre for Rockhampton and its surrounds emerged after a meeting to ascertain public support for the concept.
On the 19 December 1995, a meeting attended by members of the public and representatives from community organisations resolved to formally establish the Central Queensland Community Legal Centre.
The Central Queensland Community Legal Centre Inc commenced in 1996 providing generalist legal information, advice, representation and/or referral to members of the community who are unable to access justice through the established legal system.
During our more than 20 years of operation, the centre has worked closely with other organisations to provide our clients with legal advice, information and referral pathways.
Commencing with 2 staff in 1996, the Centre currently employs:
- A Principal Solicitor/CEO
- Five Solicitors supported by volunteers from the Rockhampton legal sector
- Three Administration staff supported by law students and volunteers from the community who are an integral part of our operations.
